About The Position

The Steel Designer/Drafter position involves creating detailed 3-D models and shop drawings for steel fabrication and erection. This role requires proficiency in 3-D modeling software and AutoCAD, along with the ability to manage project complexities and ensure accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

• Associates degree in drafting.
• 2+ years of experience drafting in a machine design capacity.
• Experience working with Tekla or SDS2 is a major plus.
• Ability to communicate effectively with routine reports and correspondence.
• Proficient in using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, gage pins, and surface roughness gauges.

Responsibilities

• Build a 3-D model using 3-D modeling software (Tekla or SDS2) to generate shop drawings for fabrication and field drawings for erection.
• Use AutoCAD to create 2D shop drawings for fabrication and field drawings for erection.
• Request necessary answers to missing information.
• Conduct some field measuring as needed.
• Create shop, assembly, and erection drawings.
• Generate all necessary reports required for fabrication and procurement.
• Provide input and develop solutions for project challenges.
• Create bills of material for projects.
• Take full responsibility for all aspects of projects involved.
• Detail and/or check all project complexities and work through building conditions accurately.
• Import and export files for use by other software and CNC Plasma machines.
• Keep up to date with software through training.
• Organize all paperwork for individual jobs including files, drawings, contracts, and all other aspects of each project.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
