About The Position

The Sterile Processing Manager is responsible for overseeing the sterile processing personnel and ensuring the efficient daily operations of the department. This role involves compliance with infection control policies and standards, acting as a liaison between the operating room and central supply, and ensuring that all instrumentation is prepared and available on time. The manager will also focus on staff development, performance improvement, and maintaining quality standards in sterilization practices.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalency required; Associates Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, including one year of previous leadership experience in a team lead/supervisory or peer leadership capacity.
  • Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (CRCST, IAHCSMM, or CBSPD).
  • Strong customer service skills, team building, multitasking, attention to detail, organization, and demonstrated communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the central supply department.
  • Responsible for staff hiring, orientation, supervision, staffing, managing employee performance and addressing concerns.
  • Schedule and supervise the work of assigned staff to ensure smooth workflow in the department.
  • Acts as a knowledge resource to staff in matters of department processes, technical skills, equipment, supplies and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a mentor and coach and provide development and growth opportunities for staff.
  • Coordinate and maintain departmental workflow in decontamination, the inspection of instruments/trays, cleaning, assembling, and packaging of surgical instruments, medical/surgical materials and equipment.
  • Proficiency in utilization of instrumentation bar code tracking systems (SPM, Epic and Dove Tree).
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment. Coordinate procurement and stocking activities. Analyze usage patterns of supplies and recommend optimal par levels.
  • Facilitate timely ordering of instrumentation and supplies. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and expense control.
  • Forecast future instrumentation/equipment needs. Track and document lost or damaged equipment and supplies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve work processes and enable achievement of goals in quality, productivity and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide ongoing communication with staff and ancillary departments. Participate in hospital teams, as assigned, in order to share information, problem solve, and evaluate the impact of services to receiving departments.
