About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician Instructor will be responsible for teaching and supervising students in the Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) workforce training program at the Community College of Rhode Island. This part-time role involves both in-person and online instruction, with a focus on preparing students for careers in hospital sterile processing departments. The instructor will collaborate with clinical and non-clinical faculty, employer partners, and program leadership to ensure high-quality educational outcomes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years' experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.
  • Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST).
  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS).
  • Certified Endoscope Preprocessor (CER).
  • Leadership experience in a sterile processing department within the past five years or Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL).
  • At least one year of teaching or peer training experience.
  • Intermediate digital communication technology skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct and supervise SPT students in the classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Oversee the clinical component of the SPT program.
  • Communicate curriculum using various teaching methods to meet learning objectives.
  • Align theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical experience in a hospital setting.
  • Deliver lesson plans and provide supplemental materials to address individual student needs.
  • Integrate technology and active learning strategies into instruction.
  • Maintain detailed records of student attendance, assessments, and progress.
  • Collaborate with program coordinators and employer partners to coordinate lesson plans and schedules.
  • Evaluate student performance using varied assessment tools consistent with certification requirements.
  • Participate in recruiting guest speakers and scheduling educational field trips for students.
