About the position

As an Operations Generalist at Petco, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our merchandising and inventory strategies are effectively executed across the Pet Care Center. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about animal welfare and are committed to providing an exceptional experience for our guests and their pets. You will be responsible for maintaining the overall operations of the Pet Care Center, which includes tasks such as stocking shelves, processing register transactions, and ensuring that the center is clean and welcoming for all visitors. Your role will also involve working collaboratively with the entire Pet Care Center team to create a positive and inclusive environment that prioritizes the health and well-being of pets. In this position, you will be expected to demonstrate a strong interest in animal welfare and support animal care procedures to maintain the health of the pets in our care. You will engage with guests to understand their needs and provide them with the best possible service, utilizing our selling behaviors to enhance their experience. Additionally, you will be empowered through our training programs to maintain safety protocols, ensuring a safe environment for partners, guests, and pets alike. As you develop your skills and knowledge, you will have opportunities to participate in developmental programs that support your continued growth throughout your career at Petco. Your responsibilities will also include adhering to established operational guidelines, policies, and procedures, as well as completing other duties and special projects as assigned. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including the ability to work evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the store. Overall, your contributions will be vital in helping Petco achieve its mission of improving the lives of pets, pet parents, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the maintenance and inventory across the entire Pet Care Center.
  • Ensure merchandise is properly stocked, priced, and displayed to create a great presentation for our guests.
  • Process register transactions in a way that creates a great experience for each guest.
  • Be proficient within our selling model and support guest interactions as needed.
  • Have a strong interest in animal welfare and support animal care procedures to maintain pet health.
  • Complete and apply training programs to maintain a high level of expertise in their role.
  • Promote a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Adhere to established operational guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Evaluate guest inquiries and refer to the Leader on Duty as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent (GED) or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and above-average communication skills.
  • Exhibit a keen and genuine interest in animals and their care.
  • Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills are necessary due to the nature of interaction with the public and other partners and leaders within the store.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in retail or customer service environments.
  • Knowledge of pet care products and services.
