About the position

The Store Inventory Control Associate is responsible for overseeing the receipt and management of merchandise in a retail environment. This role focuses on ensuring accurate inventory control, maintaining product quality, and promoting excellent customer relations. The associate will work closely with vendors and store management to ensure compliance with company standards and improve operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees vendors bringing merchandise in and out of the store.
  • Receives, checks, counts, and records all incoming merchandise.
  • Checks and records all outgoing merchandise to be returned to vendors.
  • Compares identifying information and verifies counts or weight of incoming merchandise against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Promotes excellent customer relations by greeting customers and resolving concerns promptly.
  • Ensures product is in saleable condition and rejects damaged items.
  • Conducts code date shelf inspections to validate vendor compliance with rotation and freshness expectations.
  • Executes reclamation process according to company guidelines for damaged or recalled merchandise.
  • Contacts vendors to request product or service to meet customer demand.
  • Reduces shrink by minimizing waste and damages and ensuring proper receiving procedures are followed.
  • Maintains backroom and receiving area security, sanitation, and organization by promoting 5S procedures.
  • Follows and enforces company safety standards and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Responsible for general sanitation in the department and follows cleaning schedules.
  • May assist with unloading deliveries and baling cardboard if properly trained.

Requirements

  • High school education or general education degree (GED).
  • Preferably two (2) years or more experience in receiving.
