New Hanover County is looking for a Stormwater Maintenance Worker to join the Stormwater Services Division of the Engineering Department. This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining stormwater drainage systems through semi-skilled manual labor and use of various hand tools and power equipment. Other duties include: performing preventative maintenance on tools and equipment; transporting and operating heavy equipment, such as backhoes and excavators; driving county vehicles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs); using hand tools such as chainsaws, winches, shovels, and other hand and power tools; performing landscape and waterway clearance work such as: removing debris, cutting felled trees for removal, removing excess mud and/or sand from waterways, and cutting branches, among other clearance work; reporting to blocked waterways both reported by residents as well as identified by the Engineering Department; occasionally using jon boats to cross deep waterways and/or working in standing water up to chest level; and performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
