About the position

As a Structural Engineer at Tetra Tech, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) with critical infrastructure projects funded through significant federal investments. With a focus on the design and construction of essential civil works structures, you will collaborate with national industry leaders and local experts to deliver innovative solutions for our nation's waterways. This position is based in the Pittsburgh Design Center, where you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team engaged in high-priority projects such as the rehabilitation of navigation lock and dam systems, the design of new navigation locks, and coastal protection initiatives. Your responsibilities will include structural design and analysis of various civil works structures, including flood walls, navigation locks, dam structures, waterfront structures, bridges, and pump stations. You will produce calculations using engineering formulas, perform quality control checks on calculations and drawings, and research design options to document findings for senior engineers. Additionally, you will be involved in reviewing shop drawings and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs) during construction, ensuring that all designs meet the required standards and specifications. Responsibilities

  • Structural design and analysis of civil works structures including flood walls, navigation locks, dam structures, waterfront structures, bridges, and pump stations.
  • Produce calculations using engineering formulas for project design.
  • Perform quality control checks of calculations, drawings, and quantities.
  • Research design options and document findings for senior engineers.
  • Solve problems using a combination of design standards and modified standard procedures or methods developed in prior assignments.
  • Read, interpret, and develop structural design plans.
  • Review and respond to shop drawings and RFIs during construction.
  • Provide information to senior engineers for incorporation into specifications.
  • Assign work and/or check design calculations and quantities from junior engineers.
  • Contact and coordinate with other departments to research appropriate course of action.

Requirements

  • BS in civil/structural engineering required (master's degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of relevant structural engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification required.
  • Experience with current structural design methods, codes, and standards.
  • Experience with structural concrete and steel design.
  • Experience developing structural drawings.
  • Experience with structural computer-based design tools (such as SAP2000, SAFE, LPILE GROUP).
  • Working knowledge of BIM, and/or CAD software platforms (such as Civil3D, AutoCAD, Revit, Bentley OpenBuildings, MicroStation).
  • Working knowledge of 3D FEA structural analysis computer design tools (such as ANSYS).
  • Microsoft Office software experience/understanding desired.
  • Demonstrated educational and relevant work experience showing strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
