About the position

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking an entry-level Waterfront Structural Engineer to join our Savannah office. As a leading U.S.-based global infrastructure advisor, we specialize in the planning and design of facilities that shape and serve our coastlines, harbors, and rivers. In this role, you will be involved in a variety of tasks related to the analysis, design, and inspection of waterfront structures, asset management, submarine systems, and other maritime projects. You will work closely with a diverse team of engineers, planners, scientists, and architects, contributing to multi-discipline projects that require collaboration and coordination. Your responsibilities will include performing structural analysis and design using various materials, developing plans and specifications, and conducting site inspections to ensure compliance with design standards. This position offers a unique opportunity to grow your skills in structural engineering while working on impactful projects that serve our global client base. You will be expected to engage in field investigations, resolve design problems, and prepare detailed inspection reports. The majority of your work will be office-based, but some site visits may be required, necessitating navigation of unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design, and inspection of waterfront structures, asset management, submarine systems, and other maritime projects.
  • Conduct structural analysis and design with timber, steel, concrete, and composite materials.
  • Engage in prestressed concrete analysis and design.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and calculations as needed.
  • Help resolve design problems through field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and checking of design computations done by others.
  • Calculate construction quantity estimates.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, scientists, and project managers on multi-discipline projects.
  • Perform structural site inspections and prepare inspection reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis and 1-5 years of experience in Structural Engineering, or a Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 0-4 years of experience.
  • EIT certification required.
  • Entry-level candidates must have internship or cooperative education experience in heavy civil, structural, or marine/waterfront design.
  • Background in structural modeling with nonlinear elements and/or soil-structure interaction preferred.
  • Preferred experience using AutoCAD, SAP2000, STAAD, LPile, and MicroStation.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
  • Availability and willingness to travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with structural modeling software.
  • Familiarity with marine/waterfront design principles.
