About The Position

The Structural Bridge Engineer position at Volkert involves designing and analyzing bridge and transportation structures, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and collaborating with team members to deliver innovative solutions. This role is essential for maintaining the quality and sustainability of infrastructure projects in the Midwest region.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering program
  • 5 - 15 years of engineering experience in bridge design
  • Course level or recent experience in steel and/or concrete bridge design
  • EIT certification is required
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) in Ohio or ability to obtain is preferred
  • Familiarity with bridge analysis software, MicroStation, or AutoCAD is preferred
  • Strong skills using MS Excel and MS Word
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to immediately work in the United States on a full-time permanent basis

  • M.S. in Structural Engineering
  • Experience with bridge analysis software

Responsibilities

  • Perform calculations and analysis for designing bridge and transportation structures using various bridge design software programs
  • Review calculations and design details developed by others
  • Perform load ratings on bridges of various type, size, and complexity
  • Prepare structural drawings in MicroStation and AutoCAD
  • Conduct bridge inspections
  • Review shop drawings and other related construction submittals
  • Organize and maintain project files
  • Cost estimating for various structural elements
  • Develop solutions to challenges presented by the client within budget, schedule, and project constraints
  • Work closely and effectively communicate with team members
