About the position

The Structural Technician III position at Belcan in Colorado Springs, CO, is a contract role that offers a pay rate of up to $40.00 per hour, depending on experience. The technician will be responsible for assembling and creating major assembly structures as well as performing minor part-fitting operations. This includes tasks such as filing, sawing, burring, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming. The role requires the technician to align parts on jigs and aerospace vehicles using templates and fixtures, and to measure parts with micrometers and calipers to ensure they meet specified dimensions. In addition to assembly tasks, the technician will modify both incomplete and complete assemblies, incorporating necessary changes into the structure while monitoring and verifying quality in accordance with statistical process control procedures. The job involves physical activities such as walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs, as well as repetitive hand, arm, and finger motions requiring dexterity. Vision abilities are crucial for tasks that involve close, distance, and depth perception, as well as color differentiation. Hearing abilities are also important for discerning different tones and volumes. The technician may need to lift or carry items weighing up to 50 lbs and will be exposed to outdoor elements and potentially hazardous materials. Safety and security responsibilities for people and property are also part of the role, along with inspecting structures, equipment, or vehicles and performing aviation-related duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and create major assembly structures and minor part-fitting operations.
  • Align parts on jigs and aerospace vehicles using templates and fixtures.
  • Measure parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.
  • Modify incomplete and complete assemblies and incorporate changes into the structure.
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process control procedures.
  • Inspect structures, equipment, or vehicles.
  • Perform aviation-related duties.
  • Operate or supervise vehicles, heavy or dangerous equipment or machinery.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • A higher level degree may substitute for experience or related experience may be considered in lieu of required education.
  • Must have/own tools in good working order.
  • Ability to understand and interpret applicable technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and/or publications.
  • Ability to complete installations per technical drawings while maintaining edge distance and pitch.
  • Progressive experience with structure assembly, minor part fitting techniques, and repair and refinishing such as airframe corrosion removal, as applicable.
  • Ability to install various fasteners such as rivets and hi-locks.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense, NASA, or US Military.
