About the position

The Student Nurse Summer Fellowship at Nebraska Methodist Health System is a full-time, seasonal program designed for senior-level nursing students. This fellowship aims to transition students into safe, competent, and professional practitioners through hands-on experience, job shadowing, and mentorship. Participants will work closely with experienced nurses across various care settings, developing clinical skills and gaining confidence in their abilities while contributing to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment.
  • Gives individualized customer service/patient care.
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal relations with patients, co-workers, physicians, and guests to ensure effective communications.
  • Responds to patient needs promptly and courteously.
  • Obtains feedback from patients and visitors regarding their hospital experience.
  • Communicates patient issues to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintains a positive attitude while responding to requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Completes clinical activities identified in the patient's plan of care to meet patients' comfort/activity/sleep needs and other clinical patient needs as delegated by professional staff.
  • Reports patient comfort needs to nurse in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that skin is clean and dry, reporting any noticed skin changes.
  • Provides personal care and assists with activities of daily living (ADL) with oversight and/or direction.
  • Assists with repositioning, turning, and chair transfers as needed.
  • Completes vital signs and weighs patients per the patient's plan of care with oversight and/or direction.
  • Reinforces patient education with oversight and/or direction.
  • Provides transportation assistance and attends to patient amenities.
  • Documents all data collected accurately and in a timely manner to provide an accurate record of patient activities and responses.
  • Completes daily room cleaning according to established procedures and maintains a tidy patient environment.
  • Answers call lights in a timely manner and responds to patient requests appropriately.

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior level of a Post-Secondary Nursing Program required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • CNA, CMA, SNA or SNT experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills required.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and flexibility required.
