About the position

The Student Records Module Analyst/Programmer at Cal Poly Pomona plays a crucial role in supporting the Enrollment Management & Services (EM&S) department, which is dedicated to enhancing the educational mission of the university. This position involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities, including systems analysis, application programming, database management, and providing functional and technical support for the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions system. The Analyst/Programmer will work closely with various stakeholders, including administrative offices, academic departments, faculty, staff, and students, to ensure the effective use of technology solutions that meet user requirements. In the realm of systems analysis and development, the Analyst/Programmer will analyze user needs, evaluate alternative solutions, and select optimal technology solutions. This includes consulting with users to document software/system purposes, workflow issues, and output needs, as well as developing specifications for system integration and implementation. The role also requires designing user-friendly interfaces and modifying third-party software to meet user needs. The Analyst/Programmer will be responsible for maintaining and supporting assigned systems to minimize downtime and enhance productivity. This includes evaluating and enhancing existing programs, installing new software releases, and ensuring database systems are structured and maintained for optimal data access and security. Additionally, the position involves establishing policies and procedures for data planning and analysis, ensuring data integrity, and developing data models. As a Module Lead, the Analyst/Programmer will provide functional and technical support for the Student Records, Academic Advising, and Campus Community modules within the PeopleSoft system. This includes leading business process reviews, coordinating system functionality, and collaborating with external parties for processes related to enrollment and graduation. The incumbent will also represent the department in Chancellor's Office calls and conferences, ensuring effective communication and problem resolution regarding student data issues. Overall, this position requires a blend of technical expertise, analytical skills, and effective communication to support the university's enrollment management efforts and enhance the student experience.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze user system and application needs and determine alternative solutions.
  • Consult with users to identify and document software/system purpose and workflow issues.
  • Develop specifications and requirements for system integration and implementation.
  • Design user-friendly interfaces for systems, applications, and databases.
  • Develop succinct programming code or modify software to meet user specifications.
  • Maintain and support assigned systems to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Structure, implement, and maintain database systems to optimize data access and security.
  • Provide functional and technical support for the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions system.
  • Lead business process reviews and coordinate system functionality for student records and advising modules.
  • Represent the department in Chancellor's Office calls and conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience.
  • Experience in applications programming and systems analysis.
  • Working knowledge of industry-standard applications programming languages.
  • Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills to address complex issues.
  • Effective communication and listening skills to interact with users and stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in higher education and with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
  • Knowledge of Enrollment Management & Services systems such as Admissions and Financial Aid.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical judgment to achieve desired results.
