About the position

The Substance Abuse Counselor position in Lubbock County involves working collaboratively with other counselors and community supervision officers to provide outpatient substance abuse counseling. The role focuses on implementing a comprehensive treatment program that includes cognitive-behavioral components for offenders. The counselor will be responsible for developing treatment plans, maintaining documentation, and attending meetings to ensure effective treatment delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement outpatient substance abuse counseling programs for offenders.
  • Use clinical measurements and screening tools to assess offenders' strengths and needs.
  • Develop individual treatment plans in collaboration with community supervision officers.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and prepare written reports on offenders' progress.
  • Record and maintain progress notes for counseling sessions, updating them weekly.
  • Attend meetings with the counseling team to discuss problem cases.
  • Abide by TDCJ-CJAD Substance Abuse Treatment Standards for outpatient services.
  • Attend Specialty Court staffing and court sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Education, or related fields.
  • Qualified Credentialed Counselor (L.M.S.W., L.P.C., LPC-Associate) with emphasis on drug/alcohol abuse.
  • At least two years of full-time paid work experience in the field preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of a personal computer.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Access to reliable transportation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques.
  • Familiarity with TDCJ-CJAD standards and procedures.
