The Substation Electrician II position at the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) involves maintaining and repairing critical electrical infrastructure in high voltage substations. This full-time role requires a self-motivated individual with experience in electrical work, particularly in maintenance, inspection, and repair of transmission and distribution equipment. The position is based in San Angelo, Texas, and includes responsibilities such as performing preventative maintenance, operating various tools and equipment, and responding to alarms and issues in substations.

  • Install, maintain, remove, inspect, test, and repair electrical circuit breakers, transformers, switches, and control equipment.
  • Observe and inspect equipment and structures to detect potential electrical issues.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and general upkeep of substations, control houses, and transmission lines.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings, consulting manuals and parts lists.
  • Keep drawings and schematics up to date and accurate.
  • Operate handheld manual tools and power tools in performing tasks.
  • Operate and transport equipment such as bucket trucks, boom trucks, forklifts, skid steers, and UTVs.
  • Perform low-voltage and high-voltage switching according to standard procedures and in coordination with system operations.
  • Respond to after-hour and weekend callouts to investigate alarms and issues in substations and on transmission lines.
  • One or more years of experience in maintenance and/or construction of electrical power, transmission, distribution, substation, and control equipment.
  • Experience reading blueprints.
  • A degree in electrical power theory, electronics, instrumentation, controls, industrial maintenance, or a relevant field may substitute for certain years of experience according to LCRA guidelines.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion through Level I of the Substation Electrician Program.
  • Ability to obtain a Class A Texas commercial driver's license within one year of hire.
