About the position

The Substitute Bus Driver for Henry County Public Schools is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation for students to and from school, special events, and field trips. This role involves operating a school bus over designated routes, maintaining order among students, performing daily inspections and maintenance of the vehicle, and assisting with the loading and unloading of students, including those with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Drive a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules.
• Pick up and discharge students at established bus stops under varying weather conditions.
• Maintain the bus in a safe operating condition through daily inspections and maintenance.
• Maintain order and discipline among students on the bus following District policies.
• Perform emergency bus evacuation drills as required by Kentucky Administration Regulations.
• Transport physically and mentally handicapped children, assisting with their loading and unloading as necessary.
• Observe applicable local, State, and federal policies and procedures.
• Fuel and clean the bus, including interior and exterior maintenance.
• Maintain records concerning vehicle maintenance and student transportation.
• Attend safety and preventive emergency meetings when required.
• Utilize two-way radio for communication.
• Perform first aid according to established guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• One year of experience in the operation of a motor vehicle.
• Valid Kentucky Commercial Class B driver's license with passenger endorsement and School Bus Certificate.
• Ability to operate a school bus safely and effectively.
• Knowledge of safe driving practices and first aid practices.
