About the position

The Summer Associate Internship in Savings & Membership (SMD) Data Governance is a 12-week program designed for graduate students pursuing degrees in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, or related fields. This internship will commence in May 2025 and conclude in August 2025. The primary focus of the SMD Data Governance team is to enhance data excellence by maximizing the value of data as a reliable business asset while promoting responsible data management practices. Interns will engage in impactful projects that contribute to the overall mission of the team, which includes empowering SMD to leverage data assets for effective business insights, partnering with stakeholders to enable data management capabilities, and driving accountability for enterprise data assets. Interns will work on various projects outlined in the SMD Data Governance 2024 Road Map, which includes building a comprehensive metadata collection for prioritized SMD systems, developing system architecture to facilitate communication between systems, identifying data errors and trends to improve decision-making, and performing validation checks during the transition to cloud-based solutions. Additionally, interns will conduct complex analytical statistical modeling and visualizations on large datasets to support business operations and organizational objectives. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data governance and analytics within a supportive and dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support Business Data Stewards in documenting data dictionaries.
  • Assist in the technical aspects of the business area's data catalog, including planning, implementing, and testing bug fixes, new features, and upgrades.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in data quality, classification, metadata evaluation, and data export/import processes.
  • Help document the lineage of data from creation to output, ensuring usability and alignment with business needs.
  • Enable data lineage collection and visualization to provide insights on data flows between various producers and consumers of business area data.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Exposure to scripting languages such as Python or R.
  • Experience with SQL for database management and querying.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies, specifically Databricks and Microsoft Azure.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in tackling ambiguous problems and collaborating with various business units.
