About the position

The Supervising Employee Relations Officer is responsible for overseeing and reviewing a comprehensive employee and labor relations program within a large state department. This role involves supervising subordinates, ensuring compliance with laws and policies, and addressing employee issues effectively. The position requires independent judgment and initiative while working under the administrative direction of a unit chief.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and review the employee and labor relations program.
  • Ensure compliance with the State Merit System Act and Personnel Rules.
  • Investigate employee problems and complaints, providing assistance in resolution.
  • Cooperate with departmental officials to develop good placement practices.
  • Evaluate the work of assistants in the personnel program.
  • Participate in program activities and make complex analyses and decisions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a college of recognized standing.
  • Experience in personnel administration, including staff training and labor relations.
  • Knowledge of the State Merit System Act and Personnel Rules.
  • Ability to interpret and apply labor relations laws.
