The Production Supervisor's role is critical in supporting, directing, and managing the workforce and work area to ensure the safe production of customer requirements while adhering to budgeted costs. This position requires the supervisor to spend approximately 80% of their workday on the shop floor, engaging directly with employees and operations, and 20% off the floor to handle administrative responsibilities. The supervisor is responsible for the efficient and effective management of their area, focusing on key goals such as safety management, policy and employee management, time and attendance, productivity management, quality assurance, and on-time delivery of products. In this role, the supervisor will assist the Director of Operations in achieving plant-wide goals by managing employees, selecting jobs, and determining the placement of personnel for daily assignments. They will conduct inspections of completed materials using various hand inspection equipment, including Vernier calipers, micrometers, and drop dial indicators, as well as advanced machinery like Profilometers and CMM machines. The supervisor will enforce company rules and regulations, work closely with hourly employees, human resources, and union representatives to ensure proper staffing, and provide technical guidance as needed. Safety is a top priority, and the supervisor will ensure compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety procedures, addressing any behavioral or conditional risks immediately. They will also investigate and document any accidents that occur. Continuous improvement is essential, and the supervisor will work to enhance workplace organization through daily observations and improvements, manage labor effectively, and develop a daily production plan that aligns with customer needs. Training and development of employees will be a key focus, along with maintaining visual displays of work group activity and goals. The supervisor will address any underperformance issues through coaching and counseling, and will support lean initiatives to foster a team-oriented atmosphere within their assigned area.
