About The Position

The Supervisor, Zone Transport role at Messer involves leading and managing transportation operations while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This position is crucial for maintaining efficient transportation processes, overseeing driver performance, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. The supervisor will work closely with various teams to enhance operational efficiency and support the overall goals of the organization.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and Hazmat regulations.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs.
  • Highly organized with a strong degree of computer literacy.
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with staff and management.
  • Strong coaching skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a leadership capacity.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience supervising drivers.
  • Familiarity with Messer Distribution systems (SAP, Gold, Lytx, PeopleNet, NeXIS).

Responsibilities

  • Exercise visible leadership with respect to local implementation of global/national/regional safety programs and initiatives.
  • Champion and manage the SHEQ Activity, including Safety meetings, Safety Talks, IMSS/IMS, and Site Quality Plan.
  • Lead incident/injury investigations and address root causes of accidents and near misses.
  • Recruit and select qualified drivers and oversee their training.
  • Drive continuous improvement in location management processes and people.
  • Provide timely feedback to National Operations Center teams to improve daily Transportation operations.
  • Implement and support national transport process changes and initiatives.
  • Manage and motivate office staff and drivers to support business targets.
  • Counsel, coach, and discipline employees regarding performance issues.
  • Address employee and labor relations issues in collaboration with management and HR.
  • Manage daily hours of service for drivers and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and implement Productivity Improvement Projects to enhance Key Productivity Indicators.
  • Manage maintenance programs for vehicles and equipment.
  • Monitor and manage costs to maintain a cost-effective Transportation operation.
  • Lead Location Administration tasks such as budgeting and customer billing.
  • Manage Transportation related SAP processes.
  • Encourage cross-functional collaboration and ensure after-hours coverage for customer demands.
  • Assist in coordinating responses to support major plant and on-site locations during outages.
  • Lead project implementation initiatives for new technology.
