About the position

The Supervisory General Engineer (Deputy Facility Manager) position at the Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, design, construction, and modification of buildings, utilities, grounds, and tenant systems and equipment for the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge, SD. The incumbent will supervise staff, ensure project completion, and monitor contracts, reporting directly to the Facility Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Develop performance standards and evaluate work performance.
  • Administer the overall planning, programming, coordination, and administration of program services.
  • Prepare an annual facilities program plan for maintenance and repair of buildings and structures.
  • Oversee the Engineering Branch to ensure reviews of design drawings and specifications submitted by engineers, architects, and contractors.

Requirements

  • A degree in Engineering from an accredited program or a combination of education and experience in engineering.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of General Engineering.
  • Ability to independently use and interpret National, State, and Local Building and Safety Codes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or certification as a Certified Health Care Facility Manager (CHCFM).
  • Experience in project management for sustainability activities.
