About the position

The Deputy Chief of the International Unit is responsible for supervising and managing prosecutors handling cases related to money laundering, U.S. economic sanctions, and related violations. This role involves advising on strategic approaches to investigations and prosecutions, ensuring proper training and preparation of prosecutors, overseeing complex investigations and trials, and providing legal advice to various law enforcement agencies. The position also includes developing relationships with domestic and international partners and representing the unit in inter-agency meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the work of the Unit's prosecutors on money laundering and economic sanctions cases.
  • Advise prosecutors on strategic approaches to investigations and prosecutions.
  • Ensure prosecutors are trained for complex investigations and trials.
  • Oversee investigations, criminal charges, trials, and negotiations of resolutions.
  • Manage civil forfeiture litigation and related negotiations.
  • Review legal documents such as search warrants and indictments.
  • Oversee international asset sharing and negotiations.
  • Provide legal advice to U.S. Attorney's Offices and federal agencies on asset forfeiture issues.
  • Develop working relationships with law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
  • Represent MLARS in inter-departmental meetings and discussions.
  • Provide training and capacity building for law enforcement and prosecutors.

Requirements

  • Must possess a J.D. or equivalent degree and be licensed to practice law in the U.S.
  • At least four years of post-J.D. legal experience, including specialized experience at the GS-14 level.
  • Experience in legal analysis, composing court documents, and conducting complex litigation.
  • Ability to supervise attorneys and legal support staff.
