About the position

The Surgery Scheduler at EyeCare Partners is responsible for scheduling office-based and hospital procedures in alignment with patients' diagnoses and procedure requests. This role requires clinical knowledge to ensure appropriate scheduling per provider orders and excellent customer service skills to interact with patients and staff effectively. The position demands strong organizational skills to manage a high workload accurately and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules office and hospital-based medical procedures for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling code.
  • Schedules diagnostic and imaging tests to be completed at PMG.
  • Ensures maximum efficiency in scheduling office and hospital-based medical procedures, tests, and imaging.
  • Interfaces with vendor staff to ensure necessary equipment is on site for procedures, including scheduling with contracted anesthesia groups.
  • Maintains a cohesive working relationship with hospital staff to provide patient care services.
  • Enters notes and special instructions needed for scheduling in the electronic medical record.
  • Utilizes clinical knowledge to determine if appointments are consistent with the diagnosis indicated by the provider.
  • Completes accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries as needed.
  • Provides detailed information to patients regarding test preparations and appointment details.
  • Confirms patient's insurance provider and manages prior authorization as needed.
  • Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed.
  • Completes pre-procedure phone calls and confirms appointment times with patients via telephone.
  • Reviews discharge instructions with patients and ensures proper follow-up appointments are scheduled.
  • Assists other members of the department as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience in customer service.
  • Clinical knowledge relevant to scheduling medical procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage a demanding workload accurately.
