About the position

The Sustaining Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting Crenlo Engineered Cabs' North American facilities, specifically focusing on off-highway cab products that are currently in production. This position is centered around enhancing safety in manufacturing processes, facilitating ease of manufacture for existing products, implementing quality improvements, and executing design revisions as requested by customers. The ideal candidate will be results-driven, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have a keen attention to detail. The role requires the ability to influence across various levels of the organization and a strong desire to make impactful changes. The position can be based in Rochester, MN; Greeneville, TN; Watertown, SD; or even remotely, depending on business needs. Key responsibilities include developing and administering engineering changes related to complex welded steel structures, sheet metal components, non-metallic components, HVAC systems, and more. The Sustaining Engineer will support the development and implementation of design changes for existing products, ensuring that all modifications align with established engineering processes. This involves translating customer requirements into product specifications, maintaining accurate Bills of Materials, and conducting design reviews to ensure robust technical development processes are followed post-launch. The role also requires collaboration with various internal teams, including Quality, Manufacturing, and Purchasing, to develop and implement effective design solutions. The engineer will be responsible for conducting root cause analysis and corrective action implementation, as well as providing technical guidance to both internal and external customers. Additionally, the Sustaining Engineer will utilize CREO-Parametric software for 3D modeling and will manage design files using PTC-Windchill. The position demands a proactive approach to identifying design optimization and cost reduction opportunities, as well as supporting departmental KPIs and metrics through assigned projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer Engineering Changes associated with complex welded steel structures and components.
  • Support development and implementation of design changes for existing products using established processes.
  • Translate end-customer functional requirements into product specifications.
  • Support the development and maintenance of product configurations and options for customer requests.
  • Create and modify 3D model geometries and complete component evaluations.
  • Conduct design review activities ensuring robust technical development processes are implemented post-launch.
  • Conduct 8D root cause and corrective action implementation processes.
  • Collaborate with Global Engineering team to solve product performance challenges.
  • Provide technical guidance and communication to internal and external customers.
  • Manage design files on CREO or PDF format within their respective revisions and releases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in steel structure, sheet metal part design, and welded component assembly in the Off-Highway Industry.
  • 3D modeling experience, preferably with Creo.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Design for Manufacturability in complex product environments.
  • Strong understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HVAC systems and mechanical components.
  • Familiarity with PTC-Windchill for file management.
  • Proven project management skills in cross-functional systems and processes.
