About the position

Our client in North Phoenix, AZ is seeking a dedicated Swiss/Turn Mill Programmer to join their team. This position is a full-time role with a pay range of $30.00 to $33.00 per hour, depending on experience. The role is temp to hire, providing an opportunity for long-term employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming and operating Swiss CNC machines and Turn-Mill lathes, ensuring that all parts produced meet the required specifications and quality standards. In this role, you will be expected to apply proper methodology, tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds to generate quality parts in accordance with product specifications. You will set up machines to produce the first piece on Swiss and Turn-Mill machines, as well as CNC 3-axis and 2-axis lathes and mills. Your responsibilities will include studying and interpreting drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, as well as the sequence of operations and set-up requirements to maximize efficiency. You will create setup sheets that include tool lists and home positions, and communicate with setup machinists regarding tooling requirements and fixtures. Monitoring and verifying the accuracy of each job's initial setup and final outcome will be crucial. Additionally, you will be responsible for revising, updating, and maintaining all programs and documents based on engineering changes or process improvement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Include proper methodology, tooling, cutting speeds and feeds to generate quality parts in accordance to product specifications.
  • Set-up to produce First Piece on the Swiss, Turn-Mill machines, CNC 3 axis lathes, CNC 2 axis lathes and CNC 3 axis mills.
  • Run jobs when required.
  • Study and interpret drawings, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements to maximize efficiency.
  • Create set-up sheets (tool list, x-y-z home positions) and communicate with set-up machinists of the tooling requirements, fixtures, etc.
  • Monitor and verify the accuracy of each job's initial set-up and final outcome.
  • Revise, update, and maintain all programs and documents based on engineering changes or per process improvement projects dictate.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience programming Swiss CNC Machines and/or Turn-Mill lathes (Tsugami, Star, and double-spindle + double-turret CNC machines) preferred and CNC 3 axis lathes, CNC 2 axis lathes and CNC 3 axis mills.
  • Deep understanding of machining fundamentals or formula correlation of machining parameters (i.e. SFM, RPM, IPR, IPT, etc.) on cutting tool, work-piece materials, etc.
  • Knowledge of newer Fanuc controls (18i, 31i), including Tsugami machines (S-series, B0-series,) multi-axis turn-mill centers and ability to learn and adapt to ever changing technology.
  • Knowledge of measuring equipment and the application of such instruments, including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, comparators.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical drawings and specifications and ability to interpret geometric tolerances and dimensions call-outs on drawings.
  • Detailed knowledge of programming segments and corresponding operations.
  • Working knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars and inserts used on various machines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of AS9100 quality system.
  • Proficient level of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, etc).
  • Familiar or working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
