About the position

Our client in North Phoenix, AZ is seeking a dedicated and skilled Swiss/Turn Mill Programmer to join their team. This position is crucial for ensuring the production of high-quality parts that meet product specifications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for utilizing proper methodology, tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds to generate these parts. The role involves setting up machines to produce the first piece on various CNC equipment, including Swiss and Turn-Mill machines, as well as CNC 3-axis and 2-axis lathes and mills. The programmer will run jobs as required and will need to study and interpret drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine the dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, the sequence of operations, and the setup requirements to maximize efficiency. In addition to setup and operation, the programmer will create setup sheets that include tool lists and home positions, and will communicate with setup machinists regarding tooling requirements and fixtures. Monitoring and verifying the accuracy of each job's initial setup and final outcome is a critical part of the role. The programmer will also be responsible for revising, updating, and maintaining all programs and documents based on engineering changes or process improvement projects. This position offers a full-time opportunity with a pay range of $30.00 to $33.00 per hour, depending on experience. It is a temp-to-hire role, providing a pathway to permanent employment for the right candidate. The work schedule is for the first shift, allowing for a balanced work-life experience.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize proper methodology, tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds to generate quality parts according to product specifications.
  • Set up machines to produce the first piece on Swiss and Turn-Mill machines, CNC 3-axis lathes, CNC 2-axis lathes, and CNC 3-axis mills.
  • Run jobs as required and study/interpret drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
  • Create setup sheets including tool lists and x-y-z home positions, and communicate with setup machinists regarding tooling requirements and fixtures.
  • Monitor and verify the accuracy of each job's initial setup and final outcome.
  • Revise, update, and maintain all programs and documents based on engineering changes or process improvement projects.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience programming Swiss CNC Machines and/or Turn-Mill lathes (Tsugami, Star, and double-spindle + double-turret CNC machines) preferred.
  • Deep understanding of machining fundamentals or formula correlation of machining parameters (i.e. SFM, RPM, IPR, IPT, etc.) on cutting tool and work-piece materials.
  • Knowledge of newer Fanuc controls (18i, 31i), including Tsugami machines (S-series, B0-series), multi-axis turn-mill centers, and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
  • Knowledge of measuring equipment and the application of such instruments, including calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and comparators.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical drawings and specifications and ability to interpret geometric tolerances and dimensions call-outs on drawings.
  • Detailed knowledge of programming segments and corresponding operations.
  • Working knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, and inserts used on various machines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of AS9100 quality system.
  • Proficient level of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, etc.).
  • Familiar or working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
