About the position

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Junior System Administrator for a classified cyber security program located in the DMV area. This position is integral to ensuring the secure and reliable operations of enterprise computer systems. The Junior System Administrator will work either independently or as part of a small integrated team, and may also take the lead on specific tasks, projects, or teams. The role involves ensuring project completion while providing guidance and direction to lower-level technicians, specialists, and managers. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new concepts and processes, analyzing root causes, and resolving complex issues using their comprehensive knowledge of the industry. In this role, the Junior System Administrator will perform systems administration of cyber tool sets and server systems that are connected to networks across multiple classification domains. The responsibilities include providing support to both developmental and operational systems, which encompasses day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for all client, server, storage, and network devices. The candidate will also be tasked with configuring and managing Windows, UNIX, and Linux systems, as well as installing and loading operating system and application software. This includes working with Host-based Security Systems, Endpoint Security Suite (ESS), Splunk, Cribl, and various network security tools such as Firewalls and ForeScout. Additionally, the role supports Windows and Linux systems engineering efforts in system design and evaluation, solution engineering, software development, or system administration.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate to develop innovative solutions for secure and reliable operations of enterprise computer systems.
  • Work individually or in a small integrated team, potentially leading tasks or projects.
  • Ensure project completion and provide guidance to lower-level technicians and specialists.
  • Develop new concepts and processes, analyze root causes, and resolve complex issues.
  • Perform systems administration of cyber tool sets and server systems across multiple classification domains.
  • Provide support for developmental and operational systems, including monitoring and problem resolution.
  • Configure and manage Windows, UNIX, and Linux systems, and install operating system and application software.
  • Support Windows and Linux systems engineering efforts in system design and evaluation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a systems administrator.
  • Experience with installing, configuring, or maintaining security tools including Palo Alto Firewalls and Splunk.
  • Experience with automating deployments and configuration management.
  • Experience with Cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with DoD Risk Management Framework.
  • HS diploma or GED with 6 years of IT experience, Associate's degree with 4 years, Bachelor's degree with 2 years, or Master's degree with 1 year of experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance and willingness to take a polygraph exam.
  • DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II Certification, including Security+ CE or CCNA-Security.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with operating and maintaining Microsoft Windows and Linux servers.
  • Experience as a network administrator or systems engineer.
  • Experience with tools like Gigamon, FireEye, and VMWare.
  • Experience with DoD STIGs.
  • Experience with scripting in PowerShell and BASH.
  • Experience with Active Directory for managing Windows policies.
  • Knowledge of different layers of the technology stack, including network and application frameworks.
