About the position
The System Administrator role at Ampersand Solutions Group involves supporting critical Department of Defense (DoD) missions through on-premises and hybrid multicloud server and systems administration. The position requires expertise in installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, ensuring compliance with security standards, and optimizing system performance. The role also includes transitioning applications to cloud solutions and providing IT services across various cloud service offerings.
Responsibilities
- Install new or rebuild existing servers in both physical and virtual environments.
- Configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage using Agile methodologies.
- Perform day-to-day maintenance, patching, and ensure STIG compliance by monitoring and testing performance.
- Troubleshoot operating systems and resolve hardware and software problems.
- Schedule upgrades and collaborate with engineers on network/system optimization.
- Research new technologies and leverage optimization techniques for efficient system operation.
- Transition on-premises applications to government hybrid-cloud solutions and maintain DoD approved cloud service providers.
Requirements
- 0-5 years of relevant experience in system administration.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a relevant field; or an Associate's degree with 2 years of experience; or a High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
- Willingness to travel periodically for test events.
- Ability to support a hybrid work environment with telework and on-site support.
- Certification in accordance with DoDI 8570.01M IAT Level 2 or higher.
Nice-to-haves
- ACTIVE DoD SECRET or TOP SECRET Clearance
- Experience supporting the US Ballistic Missile Defense System
- Expertise in hybrid multicloud environments and DoD test missions
- Knowledge of DoD ballistic missile defense system testing requirements
- Experience interfacing with project customers and stakeholders
- Knowledge of hybrid multicloud networking protocols
- Windows and Linux systems administration experience
- Experience with IT and configuration management databases
- Experience developing in an agile approach with scrums and sprint cycles
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
