System Administrator

About the position

The position involves ensuring the availability and optimization of MSSQL 2016, 2017, and 2019 in Hosted and IaaS SQL VM in Azure. The individual will be responsible for following technical standards and operational procedures to meet database performance, High Availability, replication, scalability, and security requirements in both hosted and cloud environments. Hands-on experience in design and troubleshooting real-time MSSQL related issues is essential. The DBA will monitor performance on application databases, queries, and suggest/apply continuous tuning. Responsibilities include working closely with application teams and other stakeholders to identify issues related to MSSQL, tuning database instances, and ensuring that all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security, and performance. The DBA will perform reviews on design and code frequently to ensure adherence to site standards and provide technical support to application development teams when necessary. Additionally, the DBA will assist in resolving priority incidents, participate in root-cause analysis, and support subsequent corrective and preventative actions. Collaboration with the Database Team Lead and various application support and engineering teams is crucial to optimize database performance and reliability. Senior Database Administrators are encouraged to acquire relevant Azure certifications (e.g., DP-300, DP-900, AZ-900 Exam) and must establish, maintain, and adhere to CRD technical standards, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the availability and optimization of MSSQL 2016, 2017, 2019 in Hosted and IaaS SQL VM in Azure.
• Follow technical standards and operational procedures to meet database performance, High Availability, replication, scalability, and security requirements.
• Hands-on experience in design and troubleshooting real-time MSSQL related issues.
• Monitor performance on application databases, queries and suggest/apply continuous tuning.
• Work closely with application teams and other stakeholders to identify issues related to MSSQL.
• Tune database instances.
• Establish standards to ensure application design and code integrity, security, and performance.
• Perform reviews on design and code to ensure adherence to site standards.
• Provide technical support to application development teams.
• Assist in resolving priority incidents and participate in root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with Database Team Lead and various application support and engineering teams.

Requirements

• 10-12 years of experience working with large MS SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019 databases in a 24 x 7 x 365 production environment.
• Good performance tuning experience using tools like SolarWinds, Query Store.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience operating MS SQL servers and related technologies in Azure.
• Very good understanding of database encryption, high-availability, disaster recovery, database replication, backup/restore.
• Must be detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong sense of customer service, attention to detail, and issue ownership.
• Understanding of ITIL concepts desired.

• Relevant Azure certifications (e.g., DP-300, DP-900, AZ-900 Exam).

• Salary Range - $70,000-$110,000 a year
