About the position

Photo-Sonics, Inc. is an international leader in state-of-the-art optical tracking systems located in Chatsworth, and we have an immediate opening for a System Level Technical Writer. We are seeking a multi-disciplinary candidate who is self-motivated and capable of setting and meeting goals. As a System Level Technical Writer with Photo-Sonics, you will report directly to the Program Director and will be accountable for coordinating with the Program Office and Chief Systems Architect, as well as collaborating with the program team to support new product development and ongoing programs. In this role, you will work closely with subject-matter experts to develop comprehensive software and system-level manuals, training materials, instructional documents, guidelines, maintenance, and test procedures for Photo-Sonics, Inc.'s technical products. You will join a welcoming team of skilled professionals, all working towards a common goal in an exciting, agile, and next-generation environment. Your responsibilities will include researching and collecting information from various sources, preparing and maintaining technical documents, ensuring clarity and technical accuracy, participating in formal design reviews, and delivering status updates to management. The position is primarily on-site but may require occasional travel to customer sites. You will also be tasked with other duties and projects as assigned by management.

Responsibilities

  • Research and collect information from a variety of sources including online help, manuals, white papers, design specifications, block diagrams, project plans, assembly procedures, bills of material, Solid Works 3D drawings, test plans and procedures, etc.
  • Prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documents including System Level Operator and Software Manuals and Procedures, Training Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, Technical Service Bulletins, Installation Instructions, Overhaul and Repair Instructions, Test Plans and Procedures, and general software documentation in accordance with internal and customer specifications and requirements.
  • Ensure that the documents are clear, concise, and technically accurate, using photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts to enhance user understanding.
  • Participate in formal design reviews to generate notes and action items.
  • Deliver oral and written status and progress briefs to Program management team, executive management, and customer management as directed.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn to read, analyze, interpret software code and system specifications.
  • Ability to learn Software mining.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and establish priorities.
  • Focused, detail-oriented, and organized to meet internal schedules and deadlines.
  • Hands-on experience writing system operational manuals, assisting with proposals, technical reports, etc.
  • Excellent reasoning, communication (both verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and drive to learn and grow.
  • Ability to create, maintain, and manage multiple project objectives according to deadlines.
  • Proficient in a range of Microsoft products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Knowledge of MS Project, CAD, and graphic tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with military and industry standards and processes as well as AS9100 quality systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced engineering degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent is preferred).
  • Relevant 5 years of technical writing experience in military research or manufacturing environment. Experience writing Operational and Software manuals.
