About The Position

As a Systems Engineer at The Rock Family of Companies, you will be responsible for building, integrating, and troubleshooting Linux infrastructure, ensuring the stability and efficient operation of information systems that support a diverse portfolio of companies. This role involves collaborating with various teams to drive vision and strategy for the Linux platform while managing day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Linux operating systems and an automation-first mentality, with the ability to learn quickly and think creatively with both familiar and unfamiliar technologies.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of Linux-based operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Rocky, Alma, SUSE, Ubuntu, Debian).
  • Configuration and management of Linux systems.
  • Security and performance tuning/monitoring of systems.
  • Troubleshooting skills for various systems and applications.
  • Firm grasp of Ansible and/or Bash (preferred) or another configuration/scripting/programming language like Python, Terraform, PowerShell, C#/.NET, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of computer networking (DHCP, DNS, HTTP, TCP/UDP, IPv4/IPv6, OSI model) and load balancing.
  • Understanding of physical hardware and infrastructure architecture in a data center environment.
  • Understanding of client-server architecture with relation to web/app servers, databases, load balancers, and other infrastructure platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Prior experience working in a customer-facing role and/or helpdesk.
  • Working knowledge of VMware, Redis and/or other caching technologies, Splunk, Azure DevOps, Active Directory, PowerBI, Dynatrace, ServiceNow, or PagerDuty.
  • Knowledge of agile development and delivery processes.
  • Experience with a continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) platform like CircleCI, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, or GitHub Actions.
  • Working knowledge of other operating systems and platforms like Windows Server.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with application teams and other infrastructure engineers to build, maintain, and troubleshoot infrastructure in our private and public clouds using a wide array of proprietary and open-source technologies.
  • Install, support, and configure systems or applications that make our team members productive.
  • Partner with the business and other technology teams to develop, champion, and support new technologies.
  • Develop automation to handle complex, time-consuming workflows and processes.
  • Write documentation and record knowledge of systems that the team supports.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
