About the position

Axient is seeking a Space Systems Engineer to support our customer in El Segundo, CA. The Innovation and Prototyping Project System Engineer provides direct support to the Space Systems Command, Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power, Innovation and Prototyping Delta. This Delta is responsible for advanced development of space capability demonstrations, technologies, and prototypes; providing next-generation rapid, innovative & affordable technology that leverages international, commercial, & interagency partnerships. This position requires a DoD Top Secret Clearance to start. In this role, you will engage in systems engineering and acquisition planning for advanced development of space capability demonstrations, technologies, and prototypes. You will evaluate research, development, and operational requirements against satellite command and control capabilities, identifying potential support deficiencies, assessing ongoing or planned architectural and acquisition activities within the satellite program, and identifying potential impacts to existing and future acquisition strategies. Additionally, you will provide support with the engineering design, development, and integration of the satellite and ground system interface. Your responsibilities will also include evaluating new and legacy technologies to determine their effectiveness in meeting developmental, interface, performance, and functional infrastructure requirements desired by the government. You will provide detailed system evolution recommendations and near and far future architectural improvements to guide the transition of space and ground capabilities. Furthermore, you will evaluate execution plans, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and specifications for design definition to support requirements, develop use cases and initial test plans for operational acceptance, and support the review of End-Item-Data-Packages in support of acquisition closeout of requirements.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years Aerospace engineering of DoD space and/or ground systems.
  • Acquisition experience in program support of a satellite service bus and/or ground-based satellite command and control system for use with operational and Research and Development (R&D) satellites.
  • Top Secret clearance and SCI Eligible.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Twelve (12) years work experience may be substituted for a Master's Degree; OR Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years work experience may be substituted for a Master's Degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing initial test plans for smaller projects getting operational acceptance desired.
  • Familiarity with Space System Command (Formerly Space and Missile Systems Center) process and procedures desired.
  • Excellent and detail-oriented organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills desired.
  • Advanced-level competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook desired.
