About the position

The T&D Data Engineer at PacifiCorp is responsible for developing data pipelines and governance for data products that support technical and operational programs in electric operations. This role focuses on managing wildfire risk data, reliability reporting, and other critical analyses within an evolving data environment. The engineer will collaborate with data scientists and analysts to ensure data integrity and accessibility, utilizing platforms like Palantir Foundry for operational data analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for wildfire safety, reliability, and resilience applications.
  • Develop and implement data governance standards to support data pipelines and applications.
  • Optimize data workflows and query performance to enhance system efficiency and data processing speed.
  • Develop and implement data quality control and quality assurance processes for supported data pipelines and applications.
  • Monitor data systems and pipelines for performance issues, troubleshoot, and resolve any data-related problems.
  • Coordinate with contracted vendors to ensure alignment across applications.
  • Manage external and internal stakeholder relationships and oversee development milestones with transparency.
  • Identify improvement needs based on stakeholder input, measurement and evaluation, and gap analysis.
  • Promote a continuous improvement mindset by conducting retrospectives and sharing lessons learned.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on project status, successes, and lessons learned.
  • Work closely with leadership teams to identify collaboration opportunities to meet business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of related experience in database administration, systems analysis, or data engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience using Python and other programming languages.
  • Demonstrated experience with SQL and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of backup and recovery, disaster recovery, high availability, security, infrastructure, performance tuning, lifecycle, data management, and data movement.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills fostering teamwork and productivity.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering.
  • Experience using and supporting electric utility data systems.
  • Experience developing and supporting data pipelines within the Palantir Foundry platform.
