About the position

The T&D Sr. Estimator plays a crucial role in the electrical construction process, focusing on ensuring competitiveness, profitability, and growth while fostering relationships with clients and internal teams. This position involves preparing comprehensive cost estimates and responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for large transmission and substation projects, as well as mentoring junior estimators.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and thorough take-off and cost development
  • Adhere to the estimating process including bid reviews, clarifications, and contract reviews
  • Prepare initial project schedules
  • Coordinate with subcontractors/vendors to secure best pricing at bid time
  • Prepare complete labor and material cost estimates
  • Outline and prepare responses to RFPs and RFQs
  • Follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Estimating
  • Develop strategies for winning projects
  • Maintain and develop the estimating database
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients
  • Assist team members with cost estimates and bid package preparation
  • Review and evaluate the performance of Estimating staff
  • Act as the first point of contact for the Estimating team
  • Coordinate with Project Management
  • Maintain bid log and report to corporate
  • Prepare bills of material for Purchasing
  • Attend on-site pre-bid meetings and perform job site visits
  • Determine constructability requirements via field walk-downs
  • Compare various project documents for accuracy and consistency
  • Perform field take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation
  • Participate in the estimate review process with stakeholders
  • Assist construction personnel in tracking and understanding cost estimates
  • Prepare and submit change orders
  • Follow-up at the end of projects to close any loops in the estimating process
  • May manage Estimating and BIM departments
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ensure regular and predictable attendance
  • Comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of electrical construction estimating experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar field (or equivalent experience)
  • Proven ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical plans, and specifications
  • Working knowledge of electrical materials and installation methods
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills
  • Team player mentality
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently for extended periods.
