About the position

This senior leadership role requires experience with structuring tax planning, voluntary compliance procedures, treaty-based positions, anti-deferral regimes, and inbound/outbound transactions. The individual will be responsible for overseeing the quality, control, policies, process, and procedures for building the real estate tax practice. The individual will operate in a highly collaborative working environment on various cross-functional teams to provide practical solutions to our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely and exceptional client service to our portfolio of real estate clients and prospects.
  • Coordinates cross-functional teams from start to finish.
  • Effectively communicates with clients to identify and resolve complex tax issues.
  • Willingness to travel to client locations, when needed.
  • Demonstrates confidence and understanding of technical and practical issues associated with tax consulting and compliance for both corporate and individual tax clients.
  • Possesses deep technical tax knowledge and remains up to date on pertinent tax legislation and its impact on both taxpayers and the firm.
  • Willingness to train staff accountants and build a real estate tax practice.
  • Liaises with partners to provide practical solutions for tax matters.
  • Coordinates responses to IRS notices associated with tax audits.
  • Engages in technical research and writing on tax issues.
  • Participates in planning and scheduling of client assignments/engagements.
  • Evaluates performance and provides feedback to staff.
  • Attends client meetings, firm meetings, and other events as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and/or advanced degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of 8 years of recent public accounting experience, with a focus in real estate.
  • Previous experience with C-corp. and S-corp. clients preferred.
  • Leading or managing a practice area is strongly encouraged.
  • CPA certified.
  • Proficiency with computers and tax-related software.
  • Excellent client service and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized and professional in their communication, both written and oral.
  • Dedicated to developing accountant levels below Principal.
  • Valid driver’s license and good Motor Vehicle Record.
