About The Position

The Tax Senior, State and Local Tax at BDO USA, LLP is responsible for providing expert tax advice to clients, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and minimizing tax burdens. This role involves extensive research, tax compliance, consulting, and managing client relationships, while also supervising junior staff and contributing to their professional development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Two or more years of state and local/multistate experience required.
• CPA certification or other relevant certification preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and research skills.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D. preferred.
• Ability to use standard tax applications and research tools preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify when research is needed and frame issues to be researched.
• Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of various tax authorities.
• Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax burdens.
• Track availability and filing requirements regarding client-related information.
• Conduct detailed reviews of tax returns and identify complex issues throughout the engagement.
• Develop, recommend, and implement methods to maximize client benefits by decreasing current and future taxes.
• Review assessment notices and monitor client expectations regarding issues of controversy.
• Utilize tax-related software in the completion of assigned tasks and train staff on current software tools.
• Develop an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues regarding taxation.
• Introduce and develop new ideas to advance the position of clients and the firm.
