The Teacher for Infant & Itinerant for Deaf and Hard Hearing Special Education is responsible for providing specialized instruction to students from birth through 22 years of age who are deaf or hard of hearing. This role involves working closely with pupils to support their mental, physical, emotional, and social growth through both individual and group instruction. The teacher will utilize various teaching techniques tailored to stimulate the abilities and interests of each student, ensuring that the unique needs of deaf and hard of hearing pupils are met. This includes the use of specialized instructional procedures and accommodations to facilitate learning. In addition to direct instruction, the teacher will be knowledgeable about and proficient in the use of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices. They will also provide auditory accommodations as necessary to enhance the learning experience for their students. The position requires a deep understanding of language development, speech and listening skills, and the function and maintenance of assistive listening devices. The teacher will also be expected to integrate knowledge of general education curricula from preschool through high school into their teaching practices, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience for all students. Collaboration with families is a key component of this role, as the teacher will work to support not only the students but also their families in navigating the challenges associated with hearing disabilities. This may involve providing resources, guidance, and support to help families understand their child's needs and how best to support their development.
