About the position

The Teacher - Special Education Inclusion position at Beaumont Independent School District is designed to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in core academic subject areas. The primary goal is to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will enable students to develop competencies and skills necessary to function successfully in society. This role requires a commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that caters to the diverse needs of students, particularly those with special educational needs. The teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing lesson plans that align with the district's curriculum program, ensuring that all lessons reflect accommodations for different learning styles. The position involves assessing student learning styles and using the results to plan instructional activities. Collaboration with special education teachers is essential to modify curricula as needed for special education students, following the guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP). The teacher will also be expected to manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the teacher will engage in ongoing assessment of student achievement through both formal and informal testing. They will also assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and serve as a positive role model for students, supporting the mission of the school district. Professional growth and development are encouraged through participation in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. The teacher will maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, and colleagues, ensuring a collaborative approach to education.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides(s) and/or volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject/level assigned.
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • Fluency in a foreign language for LOTE teachers (if applicable).
  • Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate for Physical Education Teachers.
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with special education students.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish or other languages.
