About the position

The Teacher - Special Education - Resource Room position at Heritage Middle is designed to lead students towards fulfilling their potential in various aspects of growth, including intellectual, emotional, social, and psychological development. The teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing an instructional program tailored to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, in alignment with the District's approved curriculum and teaching methodologies. This role requires guiding the learning process to achieve curriculum goals while establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects. The teacher will maintain comprehensive lesson plans, including substitute plans, and will employ diverse instructional strategies such as lectures, demonstrations, discussions, projects, and practical activities to cater to the varying needs of students. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the teacher will assess student accomplishments through formal and informal evaluations, provide progress reports, assign homework, and develop testing to gauge student progress. The teacher will also participate in the Building Study Team to diagnose specific learning needs and prescribe appropriate special programming. Effective communication and collaboration with colleagues, students, and parents/guardians are essential, as the teacher will actively listen to address student needs and participate in parent-teacher conferences. The teacher will uphold school rules and regulations, establish classroom discipline, and maintain order. Responsibilities also include supervising classroom aides and volunteers, maintaining accurate records as required by law and district policy, and ensuring the safety of students and materials. The teacher will report to the principal and may perform additional duties as assigned, contributing to a positive school climate and adhering to the ethical standards set by the Idaho State Board of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement an instructional program that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Maintain classroom lesson plans and substitute lesson plans.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Create a purposeful learning environment appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
  • Organize classroom materials, including handouts and audio-visuals.
  • Assess student accomplishments on a formal and informal basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Develop and administer formal and informal testing to ascertain student progress.
  • Grade homework and testing of student progress.
  • Serve as a member of the Building Study Team to diagnose specific learning needs of students.
  • Communicate and collaborate with colleagues, students, and parents/guardians regularly.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and Board Policy.
  • Establish rules for classroom discipline and maintain classroom order.
  • Supervise assigned classroom aides and volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy.
  • Implement school evacuation and lock-down procedures in emergencies.

Requirements

  • Proper certification as required by the State of Idaho for the position.
  • Approval as a finalist through the district's screening process.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand work-related materials.
  • Ability to observe and monitor student activities throughout the instructional day.
  • Capable of accomplishing identified Performance Responsibilities.
