About the position

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor of Screenwriting for a two-year appointment in the Film and Media Studies Program, starting in Fall 2025. This position focuses on teaching introductory and intermediate screenwriting courses, contributing to curriculum development, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program. The role emphasizes hands-on instruction in film and media practice, integrating technical production skills with storytelling and theoretical perspectives.

Responsibilities

  • Teach six 3-credit courses per year in screenwriting and related production courses.
  • Develop and enhance the curriculum for screenwriting and film and media production.
  • Integrate hands-on instruction with critical approaches to film and media.
  • Contribute to the program's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • BA/BFA degree in screenwriting, film and media production, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience writing for television or feature films.

Nice-to-haves

  • MFA in screenwriting or film and media production, or an MFA or Ph.D. in a related field.
  • At least 1-year teaching introductory or intermediate screenwriting in a post-secondary setting.
