About the position

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor of Screenwriting in the Film and Media Studies Program. This position is a two-year appointment outside the tenure stream, beginning in Fall 2025, with a teaching load of six 3-credit courses per year. The role emphasizes hands-on instruction in screenwriting and film production, integrating critical approaches to film and media. The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of introductory and intermediate screenwriting courses.
  • Develop the program's curriculum in screenwriting and film and media production.
  • Integrate hands-on instruction in film and media practice with critical approaches to film and media.
  • Emphasize the intersection of technical production skills, storytelling skills, and the history and theory of moving image media.

Requirements

  • BA/BFA degree in screenwriting, film and media production, or a related field, or a BA/BFA in another field with demonstrable experience writing for television or feature films.
  • Demonstrable experience writing for television or feature films.

Nice-to-haves

  • MFA in screenwriting or film and media production, or an MFA or Ph.D. in a related field.
  • At least 1-year teaching introductory or intermediate screenwriting in a post-secondary setting.
