About the position

The Data/Decision Science Technical Writer will play a crucial role in supporting the data science group within a financial services client. This position is primarily focused on the ongoing testing, maintenance, and documentation updates of a large inventory of internal and vendor models to ensure compliance with model risk regulations and corporate standards. The Technical Writer will be responsible for updating existing documentation and may also create original documentation for various models. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to enter the data and analytics field, as it provides exposure to the data science domain while emphasizing technical writing skills. In this role, the Technical Writer will write and update content in accordance with the company's Content and Brand style guidelines. The writer will demonstrate proficiency in various writing styles and content development, engaging with internal clients to understand their business needs and objectives. This includes interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather necessary information and translating business requirements into clear documentation. The Technical Writer will also create basic user interface wireframes to aid in service development and utilize best practices and content metrics to advise clients on content direction, ensuring that business objectives are met. The position requires a strong understanding of work-related tools, processes, and software, and may involve writing content for website publishing. The Technical Writer will utilize tested content and templates, recommending improvements in processes and techniques to maximize content effectiveness. This role is integral to the success of the data science team, providing essential documentation that supports their operations and compliance efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Write and update content according to company Content and Brand style guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in multiple writing styles and in content development.
  • Engage internal clients to understand business needs and objectives and interview subject matter experts.
  • Translate business needs and requirements stories used for services development.
  • Create basic user interface wireframes to be used for services development.
  • Use best practice knowledge and content metrics to advise clients and influence final content direction.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in work-related tools, processes, and software.
  • Write content for website publishing as needed.
  • Utilize tested content and templates and recommend improvements in process and technique to maximize content effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Data and Analytics Experience - Preference for Statistics/Econometrics/Data Science experience (1-3 years).
  • Technical Writing experience (1-3 years).
  • At least 4 years of experience in writing, editing, and document creation.
  • Ability to write clearly, concisely, and precisely for the intended audience.
  • Proficiency in using tools such as Adobe, MS Word, Visio, and Photoshop.
  • Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts and select appropriate support visuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Python knowledge or experience.
  • Banking/fraud background.
  • Knowledge of Confluence and Jira.
  • Knowledge of Agile technical software delivery methodologies.
  • Understanding of digital channel technologies (e.g., HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with concepts related to human-centered design or high-tech anthropology.
  • Experience in design research activities including planning, moderation, analysis, and synthesis.
