About the position

The Technical Accounting Project Manager will provide accounting support for corporate development and complex business transactions at NiSource. This role involves collaborating with Accounting and Finance teams to onboard new transactions, offering technical guidance, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The position requires a strong understanding of financial regulations and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research and prepare documentation for complex business transactions and provide appropriate accounting guidance.
  • Evaluate and assist in the implementation of new or revised rules of the FASB, AICPA, SEC, and other agencies.
  • Integrate newly promulgated accounting standards into accounting policies and processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of response letters and working groups associated with FASB and SEC exposure drafts that impact NiSource or the public utility industry.
  • Prepare corporate accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare technical accounting memos that address complex accounting issues, non-recurring transactions, new accounting guidance, etc.
  • Design workflows to assist in compliance with GAAP and SEC disclosure requirements.
  • Keep current with emerging accounting and reporting guidance and trends including FASB standards and interpretations, and SEC releases and speeches.
  • Review summaries that include potential impacts to the Company and present findings to affected business partners.
  • Identify and understand emerging business issues affecting the company and energy industry and provide accounting recommendations to address the issues.
  • Consult in the economic analysis of business opportunities and proposals.
  • Interface with external auditors and accounting support related to complex accounting issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related discipline.
  • 4-6 years of progressive experience working in Finance, Accounting, or other related business field.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal communication and presentation capabilities.
  • Ability to build strategic relationships and gain commitment to influence holistic strategic direction.
  • Ability to frame and investigate ambiguous questions.
  • High intellectual curiosity.
  • Collaborates to drive action.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and financial systems.
  • Demonstrated financial technical knowledge of interdependencies between business drivers and resulting impact to the financial statements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree (MBA).
  • 1-3 years of previous leadership experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience and knowledge in a regulatory environment.
  • 1-3 years of strategy/consulting or project management experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) upon hire.
