About the position

The Technical Product Owner will lead the product vision and execution for the API integration team, acting as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams. This role is crucial for defining and prioritizing the API integration roadmap, ensuring alignment with business goals, and driving the delivery of high-quality, secure, and scalable APIs. The position offers an opportunity to shape the API landscape and significantly impact business operations through strategic vision and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Define and prioritize the API integration roadmap by collaborating with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into actionable user stories.
  • Develop and maintain a clear product vision and roadmap for the API ecosystem, considering industry trends and customer feedback.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and ensuring their needs are met.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into understandable terms.
  • Collaborate closely with the API Lead Architect and API Software Engineers to refine technical specifications and validate assumptions.
  • Define API standards including contracts/schemas, authentication/authorization, endpoints, error handling, and security enforcement.
  • Participate in sprint planning sessions, providing clarity on priorities and acceptance criteria.
  • Attend daily stand-ups to provide guidance and address impediments.
  • Facilitate sprint reviews and retrospectives, gathering feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Define and enforce quality standards for APIs, ensuring performance, security, and reliability.
  • Work with QA teams to develop and execute test plans, ensuring APIs meet acceptance criteria.
  • Monitor API usage and performance, using metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of APIs, including usage guides and best practices.
  • Provide training and support to internal teams and external partners on API integration.
  • Continuously monitor API performance and collaborate with the development team to optimize APIs based on feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Technical Product Manager, preferably with a focus on API products or integrations.
  • Strong technical background and understanding of API design principles and integration patterns.
  • Familiarity with various API styles and standards (REST, GraphQL, WebSockets, etc.).
  • Experience with API testing tools and frameworks (e.g., Postman, SoapUI).
  • In-depth knowledge of Agile methodologies and practices (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with API platforms (e.g., Mulesoft Anypoint, SAP BTP).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with API documentation tools (e.g., Swagger UI).
  • Knowledge of API security best practices.
