We are looking for a results-oriented Technical Project Manager to drive technical execution in a fast-paced research environment. A successful Technical Project Manager will possess a unique blend of technical intuition, people skills, and operational organization.

Responsibilities

  • Run regular standups with technical teams to define tasks, assign task responsibilities, and track task completion.
  • Track labor, materials, and subcontractor costs for assigned projects to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Build and execute travel and logistics plans for test events and customer demonstrations.
  • Produce and maintain project management documentation, including monthly reports, Gantt charts, burndown charts, material inventories, etc.
  • Work with technical personnel to ensure adequate technical documentation is produced and maintained.
  • Serve as a primary author for technical reports and sections of project proposals.
  • Coordinate with the R&D Program Manager to review overall project execution, including technical milestone progress vs. schedule, resource requirements, project risks, etc.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement processes to improve project efficiency.
  • Prioritize the well-being of technical team members by effectively managing workloads and ensuring necessary resources are available.
  • Support an R&D culture that balances creativity and experimentation with progress towards concrete technical outcomes.

Requirements

  • A degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field with 2+ years of experience or 4+ years verifiable work experience performing the tasks defined in this role.
  • Proven track record of managing projects from initiation to completion, particularly in manufacturing and industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Familiarity with embedded systems or software engineering concepts and design processes.
  • Skilled technical writer with a proven track record in producing clear, concise, and accurate documentation for complex projects, including work breakdown structures, status reports, and requirements.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing project resources.
  • Experience in managing project budgets, including cost estimation and control.

Nice-to-haves

  • Curious mindset with a desire to learn about new technologies.
  • Superb organizational skills to manage evolving technical documentation and archives of experimental data.
  • Strong leadership skills to foster a positive work environment and motivate technical staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain highly technical concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment and manage long hours and physical demands.
