About the position

The Technical Service Line Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian Health plays a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care throughout the surgical process, from pre-procedure to post-procedure phases. The Coordinator operates under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and is responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the surgical service line. This includes acting as a preceptor, facilitating training programs, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation. The Coordinator also plays a vital role in environmental surveillance, ensuring that all safety and sterilization protocols are adhered to, thereby maintaining a safe and efficient surgical environment. In addition to patient care responsibilities, the Technical Service Line Coordinator is tasked with supply management, which involves establishing and maintaining an inventory control system for surgical supplies. This role requires close coordination with physicians and materials management to ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functioning prior to surgical cases. The Coordinator also assists in evaluating supply products for cost-effectiveness and participates in cost-saving initiatives, working alongside leadership and business managers in the operating room. Communication is key in this role, as the Coordinator is responsible for coordinating pre-procedure and post-procedure phone calls, as well as collecting data for outcomes studies and performance improvement projects. Responsibilities

  • Practices under direct supervision of an RN and acts as a Preceptor working closely with the OR Educator.
  • Supports a training philosophy and facilitates training programs on specialty related equipment and instrumentation.
  • Functions as scrub in OR as needed and performs all duties as expected.
  • Maintains up-to-date preference cards in specialty and reviews with physicians as necessary.
  • Documents and makes changes into the system to ensure lists are accurate.
  • Reviews and monitors daily environmental surveillance such as temperature and humidity, medical waste disposal, and sterilization logs.
  • Establishes, implements, and maintains an inventory control system for supplies in assigned area.
  • Ensures all supplies and equipment are available and functioning in assigned areas prior to case.
  • Acts as a liaison between OR, Materials Management, and BioMed to fulfill needs.
  • Provides quality patient care as outlined in Perioperative Standards of Care and the Department's policy and Procedures.
  • Maintains a safe environment by strict adherence to established safety principles and practices.
  • Delegates work assignments to appropriate team members to ensure quick, safe room turnovers and equipment preparation.
  • Assists in supply product evaluation and recommends cost-effectiveness of solutions.
  • Coordinates pre-procedure and post-procedure phone calls and data collection for Outcomes studies/PI projects.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist or Radiography Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
