About the position

The Technical UI Designer at Epic Games will play a crucial role in designing and implementing user interfaces for various initiatives, particularly in collaboration with Disney. This position focuses on creating user-centered experiences within Unreal Engine, involving rapid prototyping, visual scripting, and enhancing player experiences. The designer will work closely with UX designers, UI artists, and programmers to deliver features that cater to millions of users globally.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on UI Screens and Features, breaking down feature/wireframe into necessary widget structures and proposing data inputs into the widgets.
  • Work with UX & UI Art, Programming, and Game Design to identify goals and communicate the technical requirements of executing the feature.
  • Create or modify layouts from the provided wireframes with appropriate widget setup for UI Artists to begin styling and building on widgets.
  • Implement blueprint logic when presentation logic calls for it, assisting UI Artists with special presentation behavior, layout issues, and debugging problems.
  • Build modularity into widgets for rapid prototyping for Art & UX designers.
  • Consider multi-platform, accessibility, and localization needs in the widget creation process.
  • Create performance-optimized widgets and follow/set best practices as they evolve with performance and data.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience building UI and experiences in game engines across multiple platforms (mobile, web, pc, consoles).
  • 4+ years of experience working in Agile environments and on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • 2+ years of experience shipping updates and new features to a user base on a regular cadence.
  • Experience with game engines (Custom engine, Unity, UE5, Lumberyard, Snowdrop, etc.).
  • Strong logical problem-solving skills with attention to detail and excellent written and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate communication across departments and empower non-technical team members.
  • Scripting or visual scripting experience.
  • Experience in setting/keeping best practices and reducing tech debt as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Coded in an object-oriented language, like C++, Java, etc.
  • UI work on 2+ AA/A game titles and experience on a Live Service Game.
