About the position

Strategic Analysis, Inc (SA) is seeking a versatile, skilled Outreach, Communications, and Briefing Specialist to support the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) activities. The Technical Writer will play a crucial role in the planning, coordination, and execution of related activities within the ARPA-H organization. This position will support the office leadership and program managers with briefing support, focusing on distilling verbal ideas and concepts into written form. The role encompasses a variety of communication activities, including briefing support, pre-publication review, press release development, and external conference communication and materials. The Technical Writer will also be responsible for internal and external website support, multimedia, graphics, and product support. The Technical Writer will assist the office with other written communication documents, such as strategic documentation and new start documents. They will translate the office strategy and programs to various external audiences, including stakeholders, performers, and the general public. The position requires writing and editing both technical and non-technical documents, as well as publishing internal and external research communications. The Technical Writer will prepare briefings for internal and external audiences, industry day/workshop presentations, technical interchange meetings, and other briefings and presentations as required. An understanding of publication restrictions, including Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and the protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), is essential. Additionally, the Technical Writer will provide graphic design services in the development of presentations, documents, speeches, electronic media, and video development using PowerPoint presentations, multimedia, exhibits, and conference materials. They will also provide website design and programming language expertise for the development and maintenance of websites across various platforms, such as WordPress and SharePoint. The role may require the use of software languages including Python and R, as well as building and maintaining databases and information stores using applications like Microsoft Excel, Access, and OneNote. The Technical Writer will also support the Government lead in the preparation of read-ahead materials, drafting briefings or papers, and may need to work non-standard hours to attend meetings across several time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Support the office leadership and program managers with briefing support.
  • Distill verbal ideas and concepts into written form.
  • Assist with communications expertise, technical writing, and editing.
  • Provide desktop publishing, graphic design, and event management support.
  • Assist in communication with congressional and legislative affairs, academic and institutional/industry outreach activities.
  • Write and edit technical and non-technical documents for internal and external research communications.
  • Prepare briefings for internal and external audiences, including industry day/workshop presentations and technical interchange meetings.
  • Employ an understanding of publication restrictions including FOIA requests and the protection of CUI.
  • Provide graphic design services for presentations, documents, speeches, and electronic media.
  • Support website design and programming for various platforms, including WordPress and SharePoint.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience researching, writing, editing, and proofreading technical data for publications and media.
  • Experience creating technical writing products for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to editorial and Government specifications.
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly in strategic communications.
  • Ability to distill vague concepts into clear communications.
  • Detail-oriented, diplomatic, with excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to juggle various projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience creating web content/outreach via social media outlets.

  • Some scientific background and understanding preferred.
