About the position

The Technical Writer II position at Scientific Research Corporation involves a critical role in the creation and management of technical documentation for various military and government projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, writing, editing, and proofreading technical data for use in documents such as manuals, procedures, and specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of military practices and standards, as the documentation produced must adhere to specific government specifications and quality standards. In this position, the Technical Writer will create operation and maintenance technical manuals for delivered EDM Systems and equipment. The writer will ensure that all technical documentation is accurate, complete, and meets the required editorial standards. This includes maintaining a style guide and establishing guidelines for texts and illustrations. The Technical Writer will also be responsible for maintaining documentation in content or document management systems, providing input to update schedules, and tracking document delivery milestones. Additionally, the Technical Writer II will be involved in writing, editing, or reviewing proposals and marketing materials, contributing to the overall communication strategy of the organization. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as proficiency in various software tools such as Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project. A current Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance is also a requirement for this role, reflecting the sensitive nature of the work involved.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, writes, edits, and proofreads technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures, and specifications.
  • Creates operation and maintenance technical manuals for the delivered EDM Systems and equipment.
  • Ensures technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.
  • Assists in establishing style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations and suggests revisions to the guidelines and standards.
  • Maintains the style guide.
  • Maintains documentation in content or document management systems.
  • Provides input to or updates schedules to track document delivery milestones.
  • Writes, edits, or reviews proposals and/or marketing materials.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of experience writing operational documentation, maintenance documentation, or installation data documentation using standard military practices.
  • Possess a current Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Three (3) years' experience supporting DoD or Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Programs.
  • Three (3) years' experience creating System User Manuals (SUM), System Administrator Manuals (SAM), and other technical documentation for DoD programs or projects.
  • Experience using Adobe Pro.
  • Experience using SharePoint.
