About the position

This position supports the Acquisition Readiness (AR) Performance Assessment (PA) Information Technology Support Services (ITSS) contract at NSWC Corona. The NSWC Corona Division organizes its efforts into specialized technical capability areas, which include Warfare Systems Performance Assessment and Acquisition and Readiness Assessment. The division provides a disciplined process for measuring and managing material readiness using custom tools, databases, data lakes, data warehouses, and business intelligence interfaces to provide authoritative metrics, trends, and drivers. Additionally, the division offers quantitative performance assessment using custom analysis tools to process and visualize data for the US Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard combat systems, including sensors, track management, and weapon interface, fleet interoperability, and weapon systems, providing analysis products to sponsor decision makers. The Technical Writer III is responsible for developing, writing, and editing material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, as well as the installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment. The writer receives assignments from a supervisor, observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedures and details. This role involves interviewing production and engineering personnel and reviewing journals, reports, and other materials to become familiar with product technologies and production methods. The writer also reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data related to the operation, maintenance, and service of equipment. The Technical Writer III studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedures, and production sequences. The writer organizes material and completes writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. They review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding. This position may also involve maintaining records and files of work and revisions, selecting photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material, assisting in laying out material for publication, arranging for typing, duplication, and distribution of material, writing speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases, and editing or standardizing material prepared by other writers or plant personnel. The incumbent may specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must have a SECRET clearance (interim clearances are acceptable).
  • Experience in technical writing, particularly in defense or military contexts.
  • Strong understanding of technical documentation standards and practices.
  • Ability to study and interpret technical documents such as blueprints and specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
