About the position

The position is responsible for creating technical documents and manuals, explaining detailed information in a clear and concise manner, and working with engineering and technical staff to ensure accuracy. The role involves observing and recording current work activities of various assembly operations, planning, developing, organizing, writing, and editing operational procedures, work instructions, and manuals. Additionally, the position requires taking photos of component parts and work activities to import into documents for work instructions, seeking out necessary engineering or QC drawings to assist in showing proper assembly instructions, and producing both electronic documentation and hard copy materials. The candidate will analyze documents to maintain continuity of style, manage updates and revisions for documents, compile final drafts for manufacturing management review and approval, and communicate with production staff, quality assurance, engineering, and manufacturing management to acquire necessary information for proper documentation. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and record current work activities of the various assembly operations.
  • Plan, develop, organize, write and edit operational procedures, work instructions and manuals based on observations.
  • Take photos of component parts and work activities and import them into documents for work instructions.
  • Seek out necessary engineering drawings or QC drawings to assist in showing proper assembly instructions and import them into work instruction documents as necessary.
  • Produce electronic documentation in addition to hard copy materials.
  • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style of content.
  • Manage updates and revisions for documents and other literature.
  • Compile final draft for manufacturing management review and approval.
  • Communicate with production staff, quality assurance, engineering, and manufacturing management to acquire necessary information for proper documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Proficient in the use of a digital camera for capturing information and operations and importing to documents.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences.
  • Previous experience in assembly manufacturing/operations is helpful.
  • Understanding of workflow and efficient manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Able to efficiently work with all levels of staff.
  • Able to work independently and handle multiple tasks in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to wear and maintain any required personal protective equipment.
  • Working toward a degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in assembly manufacturing/operations helpful.
  • Understanding work flow and efficient manufacturing processes a plus.
